Galliani: Signing Van Persie a dream that may never come true

AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has admitted that he dreams of bringing Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie to San Siro, although admits "not all dreams come true unfortunately".

The 67-year-old Italian entrepreneur declared his interest in the Netherlands international ahead of the Rossoneri's flight to London for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against the Gunners.

With van Persie contracted to Arsenal until at least 2013, Galliani is simply content to have Zlatan Ibrahimovic within Milan's ranks, a player he believes is worthy of the Fifa Ballon d'Or.

"I would like it so much [if Ibrahimovic was to win the Ballon d'or]," he told reporters on Monday. "To win this award, however, also requires great results from the team.

"If he wins the Champions League or the World Cup, Zlatan could have this award sooner or later.

"But we need to win a major trophy. Take Fabio Cannavaro he would hardly have won the Ballon d'Or without the World Cup triumph in 2006.

"Hopefully Ibra will succeed with us or his country."

As for the Rossoneri's meeting with Arsenal at the Emirates, Galliani insisted that the Serie A champions will be taking nothing for granted - even though they hold a 4-0 lead from the first leg at San Siro.

"[Is it] game over? We must take great care anyway; I do not trust anyone," he reasoned.

"The English are a good team. Also, everyone knows that Milan have already suffered a stunning comeback in the past in Europe [against Deportivo La Coruna in 2004]."

Milan's meeting with Arsenal in north London kicks off on Tuesday evening at 20.45CET.
